Leyland Court – Young Event Horse 2021 Qualifier

A busy couple of weeks for the babies rounded off by a good day at Leyland Court Nexgen Young Event Horse Qualifier on Tuesday.
Joey was the star again impressing the judges to finish 10th despite an unlucky rail. Kizzy has grown hugely in confidence and decided she would prefer little or no intervention or assistance which slightly spoiled the overall impression!! But we were thrilled with how she had changed from slightly overawed at Cherwell to downright cocky here. Babies always keep you on your toes!! Roll on the final with Joey at Hickstead in a couple of weeks.
Also, many thanks to Rachel Wakefield and her team for running on such an educational and well run series.

Joey looking very grown up in the ring.

Aston Le Walls UA

Clever young horses at Aston Le Walls UA this weekend! 4YO Joey took it all in and felt very relaxed about the job XC, giving a confident performance in the 90. 5YO Kizzy looking quite the pro now! And finished 8th.

Wellington

This week the team headed off for two days of eventing at the wonderful Wellington Horse Trials.

We had a great first day with Hazard Z coming 7th in the novice and Piccolo V 6th in the intermediate.

The next day Milchem Sea Breeze & KEC Delicate Girl did their thing, with a 6th place ribbon for KEC Delicate Girl in the Novice.

Nexgen Young Event Horse 2021

4YO One Bid (Joey) pulling it out the bag in the Nexgen Young Event Horse 2021 4YO class at Cherwell this week - with an awesome performance. He was 5th out of a class of 40+ and qualified for the final at Hickstead!! Clever pony!!
It wouldn’t have been possible without the progress made when staying with Lucy Jackson Eventing under the piloting of Finley Atherton whilst I was off, and big thanks to them for all their great work.
Roll on the finals!

Cotswold Cup

A great day at the brilliantly run Cotswold Cup event at Crown Farm yesterday.
The highlight was a WIN for Olivia Ashfield’s Coolodge Mick. Making light of his 17 years and enjoying meeting the dressage steward who knew him when he was 4!!
5yr old Kizzy had clearly learned loads from her first run at Aston and felt much more confident in all 3 phases to finish 9th.
4yr old Joey learning the ropes including accepting someone other than him is in charge of the steering xc.
Always fun seeing how the young ones make the journey in their own way. Perfect educational day. Made even better by the sunshine!

Aston Le Walls (4)

The day after we headed to Aston Le Walls with Piccolo V building up the Intermediate miles. He did a good test for 31.6, he didn’t quite get his normal spring off the Aston surface for a couple down and then a confident clear cross country.
We then headed back the next day with Timpex Karizma and Belle. First up was Timpex Karizma contesting her first ever event. She tried her heart out with a couple of minor wobbles, but we were delighted with how she coped with a hugely educational experience. Last but by no means least we had the wonderful Belle putting her best foot forward and picking up 4th in the 100. A mare of many talents - Worker/Hunter/Eventer/Mum’s hack. Super versatile yard treasure strikes again!

A cool and calm Timpax Karizma, just before her dressage test.

Aston Le Walls

A good couple of days with the team at Aston Le Walls over the weeekend.
On Friday we headed over with three running in the novice. Hazard Z got the gold star with a 31, double clear to finish 10th. Milchem
Sea Breeze also jumping double clear for 11th. KEC Delicate Girl didn’t quite perform to her normal standard in the first 2 phases but building up the cross country miles with a very assured clear.
We then headed back with Piccolo V for his second run at intermediate level, where he put in another solid run and great clear cross country. However, we did have slightly more drama than we’d bargained for as a lost shoe nicked a small vein just above his coronary band so we had a fairly good Dracula impression round the lorry. But super efficiently dealt with by Ali Butler and all seems well!
