Today was Fernhill Now or Never’s turn at Aston and it seems our good week has continued! He jumped another fabulous double clear for me giving us lots of confidence going into Millstreet International Horse Trials in couple of weeks.
Lovely day at Homme. Dernahatten Oak, owned by Mia Ashfield, came 8th in his first BE100. In the novice little miss consistent Belle did another double clear and Oli got the gold star for a mega cross country round . A huge well done to our lovely livery Eleanor who did a fab double clear in her first ever BE100.
HeBelle has been in great form this season so far and has really come on since eventing as a 5 year old.
In the spring she was placed in her first three events at BE100 level being in the top 10 on each occasion.
Upton House was her most recent event and she really stepped up. Another great double clear saw her finish the day in 7th, her first placing at this level. I am really looking forward to the rest of the season with her and hopefully will be competing in international 6 year old classes.
It has been great to get Oli out and about eventing this year, with 2018 being his first season properly competing. He is a horse I have always been quite excited about and now as a 6 year old he is really ready to crack on.
He started the year off learning the game at BE100 level. After jumping two double clears and finding the BE100plus at Nunney very straightforward, he felt ready for Novice. Farley was his first event at this level and after an interesting warm up in the show-jumping (!), he went on to jump two great rounds, but still very much learning at this level.
Yesterday saw him tackle his second Novice event at Upton House. I was thrilled with how he came out and he jumped a super double clear to gain his first BE point. The season plan with him has always been to aim for Osberton 6 year Championships and also potentially Millstreet, which after this performance I feel he is really on target for.
We had a great time at Barbury in the CIC** with Hugo (Fernhill Now or Never), who was having his first proper outing back since Badminton.
We had taken him for a prep run at Farley where he had produced a fab double clear in the OI for 10th place. I so enjoyed having him out again and it was great to have him feeling on such good form.
As always it was a mega field at Barbury, but Hugo was awesome and did another fantastic double clear to finish in 16th place. Huge thanks to the event team who had worked so hard on the going, which cannot of been easy in this continuous drought. All in all a lovely event, one of my favourite of the year.
I can’t believe Badminton week is here and I am at the cusp of starting my first journey to the most famous three day event in the world. So before I get stuck into the week, I wanted to give you a bit of background on me, but more importantly my horse of a lifetime Fernhill Now or Never (Hugo for short).
Meridian Sport Horses is a small but professional family business seeking to produce the best possible modern sport horses primarily for eventing. Over the last 7 years since we have started breeding in a small way we have developed an extensive knowledge of the breeding industry and are now beginning to see the fruits of our work in some lovely young horses coming up though the ranks. It was a great encouragement and endorsement of our breeding programme that one of our eldest youngsters Diva’s Law was Champion young sport horse at Newbury Show last September. Two of our mares have Head Stud Book status and Our first foray into foal grading resulted in higher first premium and first premium awards.
We are happy to take In youngsters or mares for basic ground work or preparation for gradings or showing.
