Fernhill Now or Never

We had a really tough time last week as we said goodbye to the wonderful Fernhill Now or Never (Hugo to his friends). Having been out and about on him before Christmas, very sadly wear and tear caught up with him and he deteriorated rapidly, so saying goodbye was the kindest thing to do.

On a sunny day like today we’ve been looking back at all his highlights and I am feeling very grateful to have been able to ride such a wonderful horse. Purchased as a 5YO from Carol Gee, we rose through the ranks together and learnt so much. He gave me my first appearance for Team GB in former 2* Championships. We then went onto three 5* completions, with the highlight being Badminton in 2018, where we finished as best GB first-timers and had a cross country round I will never forget! He really was a jumping machine and gave me so many wonderful rounds at the very highest level, along with picking up top placings throughout his career.

The yard will not be the same without him and I wish we could have had more time to give him the retirement he deserved. I want to say a huge thank you to all my amazing team who were part of our journey and made it all possible.

I am forever grateful for all the brilliant and memorable times we had together. Thank you Hugo 💙

Calmsden October 2019

We had a great outing at Calmsden Horse Trials on Saturday and hats off to the organising team for doing an amazing job to run the event.

Lecarrow Watermill (Belle) was 9th in the novice and Hazard Z (Harry) was 5th in the 100

Sad not to be able to run on Sunday, but the weather definitely took a turn for the worst!

Osberton National 5YO Championships

It was brilliant to be at Osberton 5YO Championships with the lovely Milchem Sea Breeze. We have had a great season and she has taken to eventing like a duck to water, winning her qualifier at Wellington Horse Trials in great style.

Our dressage felt nice and I was so pleased about how relaxed she stayed with more atmosphere. However, it was one of those days where the judge was not quite on the same page as us and we got a rather average mark, but it took nothing away from the mares performance.

Onto the show-jumping and she jumped a mega clear which was awesome. She also went brilliantly cross country, bar one unfortunate misunderstanding.

However, overall it was such a excellent experience for her and I can’t wait to keep producing her, very exciting for the future!

Moreton Morrell & Cirencester Park

Busy and great couple of days for the team.

Friday saw us head to Moreton Morrell, where Meridianway Grafs Pride finished 6th in the Novice and Osberton bound 5YO Milchem Sea Breeze also put in a lovely performance in the BE100 for 9th place.

Yesterday we went to the new event at Cirencester Park, which was a fantastic venue. Horses again where on form with Hazard Z picking up 3rd and I also rode Ultravox for the Hazell family who was 4th. KEC Delicate Girl did a great dressage and show-jumping but just green mistake cross country.

West Wilts September 2019

Great day at West Wilts with the team.

Meridianway Grafs Pride was 9th in the Novice, Hazard Z 4th in the 100. KEC Delicate Girl was brilliant but I had a sat nav failure in the form of a missed XC fence () keeping her out of the ribbons!! Piccolo V had a steady run for his first outing since Hartpury jumping a lovely double clear to finish 11th.

Beautiful Meridianway Ramzes Boy was also an absolute star with Alex Whewall Eventing 3rd in only his second novice with a cracking double clear. Well done to Alex and Brutus.

Goring Horse Trials 2019

A good days competing at Goring Heath Horse Trials over the weekend with the team.

KEC Delicate Girl had a rail and misunderstanding coming out the water, but was great apart from that in their first BE100.
Milchem Sea Breeze is on a role and continued her good form to finish 2nd in the BE100. Just denied a second win on the trot as finishing score was further from the optimum time (but on the same score!)
Hazard Z was 9th with a double clear in the BE100.
Meridianway Grafs Pride was 7th with double clear in BE105
Meridianway Ramzes Boy was 10th with Alex Whewall Eventing

A busy but successful day, many thanks to all our helpers and the organising team at Goring. Thank you Voltaire Design United Kingdom for the fantastic prizes.
