Having grown up as a pony mad townie Ruth has been involved with horses in some way all her life.
Her interest was encouraged by her Northern Irish aunt, who bred a few horses and hunted. Ruth got to show one of these homebreds at Dublin Horse Show in her teens. This then led onto her eventing up to intermediate level but always as a hobby, alongside a legal career (a qualified lawyer and holding an MBA she was head of legal for a large multinational FTSE 100 company). Ruth was lucky enough to receive some classical grounding from Edy Goldman in her younger days and had some great training during her time in the US, from Anne Kursinsky, Mark Phillips and Jimmy Wofford.
Spells abroad for her husband's career and bringing up 3 children meant that it was only once Kate started to pursue a serious career with horses that Ruth developed her interest in breeding top level sport horses. A role which Ruth now heads up at Meridian Stud. A small, but successful breeding operation, Ruth carefully selects suitable stallions and brood mares, and then overseas the youngstock development and grading.
A crucial member for organising the day to day running of the yard, Ruth also still does her stints as groom, driver and chief bottle washer!! And is occasionally seen rather white faced up on the gallops or more frequently and comfortably at the end of a lunge line or set of long reins!
