We had a really tough time last week as we said goodbye to the wonderful Fernhill Now or Never (Hugo to his friends). Having been out and about on him before Christmas, very sadly wear and tear caught up with him and he deteriorated rapidly, so saying goodbye was the kindest thing to do.
On a sunny day like today we’ve been looking back at all his highlights and I am feeling very grateful to have been able to ride such a wonderful horse. Purchased as a 5YO from Carol Gee, we rose through the ranks together and learnt so much. He gave me my first appearance for Team GB in former 2* Championships. We then went onto three 5* completions, with the highlight being Badminton in 2018, where we finished as best GB first-timers and had a cross country round I will never forget! He really was a jumping machine and gave me so many wonderful rounds at the very highest level, along with picking up top placings throughout his career.
The yard will not be the same without him and I wish we could have had more time to give him the retirement he deserved. I want to say a huge thank you to all my amazing team who were part of our journey and made it all possible.
I am forever grateful for all the brilliant and memorable times we had together. Thank you Hugo 💙
